Welcome to BrewDogs!

Welcome and thanks for visiting! We are the Brew dogs of SMU. Our love of craft beers, good times, and great food has inspired us to blog about some local breweries around the DFW area.

This blog is dedicated to comparing the atmosphere and beer selection of some of our favorite local breweries. We have decided to visit Four Corners Brewery, Braindead Brewing, Texas Ale Project, Community Beer Co., and Deep Ellum Brewing Company.

Many of you might ask, "What is craft beer?" so we provided a breakdown of the basics of craft beer and our 3 favorite brews. We love your feedback!

What is a Craft Beer?

The first question you may ask is what actually constituents a Craft beer? Well there are many factors that go into a Craft brewery, but they have 3 common attributes:
Small
Annual production of 6 million barrels of beer or less (approximately 3 percent of U.S. annual sales). Beer production is attributed to the rules of alternating proprietorships.
Independent
Less than 25 percent of the craft brewery is owned or controlled (or equivalent economic interest) by a beverage alcohol industry member that is not itself a craft brewer.
Traditional
A brewer that has a majority of its total beverage alcohol volume in beers whose flavor derives from traditional or innovative brewing ingredients and their fermentation. Flavored malt beverages (FMBs) are not considered beers.

Now that we have an understanding of what a Craft Brewery is, we can look into the goods....the beer!!!! Belgium Style, IPA's, Pilsner's, Coffee Beer, Chocolate Beer, what does it all mean?!!!! Since the expansion of craft beer in the last 5 years there has been an influx of new and unique beers, so don't be worried (because most people have no idea what they mean either). Below we've include 3 common American Craft Beers:

1. American Amber Lager

2. American Amber Lager

3. American Wheat
